AFL General Manager Darren Birch welcomed the partnership. “We’re excited to add rebel as an Official Partner of the AFL and the NAB AFL Women’s Competition for the next three years,” he said.
“With one day until our AFLW players make history, this is the perfect time to announce our partnership with rebel, one of the largest and leading Australian sports retailers.
“rebel are just as passionate about growing and evolving the game as we are, and are committed to supporting the healthy and sustainable pathways of our players.
“Not only do we share their vision for active living, but we value their longstanding contribution towards local sport – both are great markers of what we will create together across AFL and AFL Women’s.
“rebel is a well-known Australian retailer that provides Australians with an outlet for all their sporting pursuits, and we are thrilled to have them as a partner of AFL and AFLW,” he said.
Erica Berchtold, Managing Director Sports Retail, Super Retail Group said the the partnership is also providing support to participation programs through NAB AFL Auskick and Junior Football where rebel will be active in creating and promoting engaging digital content combined with in-store activities.
“We are really excited about this partnership which further highlights our commitment to women in sport,” Ms Berchtold said.
“AFL is helping to pave the way in this space, and we want to be right there by their side”, she said.
To celebrate the partnership’s kick off, rebel will also be launching a new iteration of its ‘rebel women’ content. Aimed at elevating the profiles of female athletes and providing them with a platform to tell their stories, the content showcases talent from Collingwood, Western Bulldogs, Carlton and Melbourne Football Clubs.
“We want to continue to inspire the next generation of female sports stars, and let younger women know that sport, in this instance AFL, is not just a hobby but a viable career path. From grass roots participation to elite level athlete, we want to play a role in supporting them”, said Ms Berchtold.
The ‘rebel women’ content will launch ahead of the AFLW season kick off across social channels.
